The Sisters Of Patience February 5th, 2024

“Perseverance is the sister of patience, the daughter of consistency, the friend of peace, the cementer of friendships, the bond of harmony, and the bulwark of holiness.” - Bernard of Clairvaux

You’ve probably long understood why patience has been deemed a virtue. It seems that the more you sense an inability to be really patient, the more opportunities you get to practice. Patience is all about self-control. It’s the one thing that tests you nearly every day of your life. Can you be patient when your spouse isn’t listening to you? Can you be patient when there’s a long line at the bank, but you simply must do a transaction today?

Imagine, if you can, what it must be like for God to be patient with human beings. If you dare, imagine what it takes for Him to be patient with you. Patience may coincide with perseverance because it is an attitude. Adopting a patient attitude, may not only help you grow, it may also save your heart a lot of stress.

Embrace those moments when you are called upon to be patient. Stand back and observe them. You’ll get better at being patient each time you try.

“We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character, and character produces hope.” - Romans 5:3-4 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, help me to be aware of those moments when I’m not willing to be patient. Thank You for being so patient with me. Amen.
